The LA Film Festival, by Film Independent, was a huge success once again in 2013. This year’s entries were vastly different from last year’s. Last year was the year of great documentaries as well as wonderful narratives and shorts, This year I’d say the narratives took the lead, especially in the horror and thriller genres. There were also several documentaries, some excellent shorts, and an animation entry that warmed the heart completely. Scary movies were unusually good and abundant. Here are a few of my favorites: Fruitvale Station, The Conjuring, and You’re Next. (Subscribe to my name above and see reviews of these films and more as I add them in the upcoming weeks).

The festival worked like clockwork from the head of the organization to the volunteers. The beautiful downtown Regal Theaters, at LA Live, hosted the festival and were as accommodating and gracious as always. Why not take a moment and become a member of this vital organization? The basic membership is affordable, and the rewards are abundant. Your membership donations help to continue the cultivation of new filmmakers who might not otherwise have a voice. Once you attend you will understand and be very happy you did.
