The Pan African Film Festival continues to be one of the best Film Festivals in Southern California.
Every year the PAFF invites us to enjoy the art of storytelling from the worldwide African perspective. In all forms of visual arts and social media the Pan African Film Festival annually enlightens its 3500 attendees with current cutting edge developments from new film makers, as well as historical films and documentaries.
“PAFF 2014” was once again held at the Rave Cinema, Baldwin Hills, in Los Angeles. This year’s entries were abundant with over 180 films from 46 countries. Films from all walks of life, focusing on the observations and insights of the Pan African Experience through narratives, documentaries. and shorts. PAFF 2014 opened with the award winning “Of Good Report”, a critically acclaimed African entry. The center piece shown at the Los Angeles ArcLight Cinerama Dome, was Kevin Hart’s recent blockbuster, “About Last Night”, now available on DVD and Netflix. Another major festival favorite was, “The Blue Caprice”, starring actor Isaiah Washington, now on the Sundance channel and Itunes. The festival closed with the stunning, yet to be released, “Blackbird”, staring Oscar winner and co-producer Mo Nique. Also available were several insightful seminars such as, “Conversation with ̀‡Charles Dutton”, an honored winner of the 2014 PAFF “Lifetime Achievement Award”, and a “Web TV Series” panel discussion hosted by the always current and innovative Charles Reese. Actor-Producers, Mo Nique and Isaiah Washington, were on hand for stimulating discussions about the progress and responsibility Black Artist have to enrich the conditions of life through their artistic expressions.
