Rating:
Not since “Shawn and Juan of the Dead,” has a comedy horror film been worth it’s salt! Finally a high rating to a team of writers and performers who have made a horror film that thoroughly entertains. “This Is the End” has humor appropriate to it’s targeted audience, yet not too far out to include older audiences with a an open mind and a youthful sense of humor. (R rated for language and overt locker-room sexuality, innuendo, and nudity)
Writer Seth Rogen and Ethan Goldberg have written a humorus view of what would happen if the end of the world, (Yes, Armageddon!), were to start in the “City of Babylon”; Hollywood. To make it more realistic the actors in the film play themselves using their own names.
The story starts with a young star, Jay Baruchel, a quiet soul who finds himself with his best friend, Seth Rogen, at a Hollywood party. James Franco gives the party at his home for a group of youthful Hollywood “A” listers. While they enjoy a typical night of obsessive abundance and degradation, our young star contemplates his peer’s values. Meanwhile, it would appear that God Himself has decided to make assessments when the mother of all earthquakes literally splits the earth on which Hollywood stands.
The comic timing of the cast also led by Jonah Hill, Danny MacBride, and Craig Robinson; and the wonderful direction of Ethan Goldberg and Seth Rogen, give us a romping, frightening time of adolescent to adult humor with some chilling scenes and comic dialogue. Keeping laughter rippling through the audience non stop. This film is reminiscent of a modern day Hardy Boys approaching a Mel Brooks status movie.
Congratulations are in order to the cast and crew for this production. Finally a funny, scary movie to recommend. This is also very likely to be the most successful film Seth and the team have produced. By all means folks, keep it coming!! “This Is the End” is open in a theater near you.
