Not since Spike Lee’s “School Days”, “Do the Right Thing”, and “Jungle Fever”; have we seen a comedy satire with so much insight into what it means to be young, gifted, and black, in an Ivy league College in the United States of America. “Dear White People” is not a movie for everyone but for those with a good sense of humor and a penchant for current racial satire, you will love “Dear White people”.

Far beyond Affirmative Action, while giving us the humorus flavor of “National Lampoon” meets” “In Living Color “, “Dear White People” deals with of all kinds of stereo types, including the usual. It digs right in there to the specifics without making Affirmative Action even a minor player in the equation. “DWP” does however grab us, and more importantly its target audience with this attitude towards racism today; “Really?!?” If you think the kids of 2014 have dropped the ball, think again.

Besides using old and recent stereo types, Author-Director Justin Simien, also confronts current racial issues of the unassailable emerging American youth of mufti ethnic backgrounds. Although on the surface “Dear White People” is tongue-in-cheek colloquially joke filled, it also has a serious and deep heart which addresses all races and many social i’ll’s.

Justin Simien and the terrific cast of actors led by; Tyler James Williams, Tessa Thompson, and Teyonah Parris, pick up where the post civil rights generation and their children left off. The grands and great grand children, “Got This!!” The ” New Millennials”, as they call themselves, are making America proud.

Hopefully eventual distributors will produce a “G” rated version of “Dear White People” so a broader audience may experience it without flinching. But for the youth of today, this is one author’s echo on where you are as Americans.

In the end “Dear White People” begs the questions…will the problem of race, wars, religious and social differences continue as if a staple ingredient in the human genome… if man is a superior being on the planet, why then is social sanity towards diversity not an integral part of our DNA?

How will we continue in the love that we were created? “Dear White People” proposes that it is time America; It is time.

Rated PG, for young adult, language and sexual issues.
