James Wan may be today’s leading director of the present horror film era. We have these great films to thank him for; “SAW” (2004), “SAW III” (2007), “Insidious” (2010), and “Insidious Chapter 2,” (soon to be released). Yes, this young director gets it. He knows how to get into your head and scare your pants off.

“The Conjuring,” which opens today, is one of the scariest
movies since the days of “Amityville Horror” meets “The
Exorcist.” This is edge-of-your-seat, white-knuckled terror. “The Conjuring” is not to be witnessed by the weak of heart or the people afraid of the dark. In fact, if you are that wary, see it in the daytime so you’ll have time to get over the shakes before going home.

Our story begins when a family moves into a beautiful old house in a small community near a lake by the woods. The house has an old basement with “stuff” left over from folk that lived there before. Oh yes, and there’s a little dolly that, well, has a mind of her own.

That’s it! That is all you need to know. If you like scary movies, especially in the old- fashioned style revisited, get your popcorn, soda, hotdog, someone you can cling to and GO see “The Conjuring.” This may very well go down as one of our powerful horror movie classics.
